In 1995, when we were looking for a holiday home, to replace our boat,
we arrived in this village.
Vivien shows you round this peaceful haven : " We found this village by chance, and we fell in love with the place
and its inhabitants straight away. It's so colourful ; we really
tried hard to get to live here all the time.
Molleges is a typical Provencal village; it has such an eventful past,
and traditions are still kept going. The Abbey Ste Marie was founded
in 1208, and every year in March, there is a historical reconstitution
" Les Abbesses de Mollegès". In June, it's the St Eloi fête
-with decorated carts pulled by carthorses decorated in the saracen manner.
In the Summer , there are many local "votive" festivities. The year
ends with a real pastoral Midnight Mass in the church on Xmas Eve, with
procencal costumes, the shepherd, the sheep ..."
Molleges has kept its peaceful and rural style. It is away from the surrounding
tourist attractions, and lets its neighbour Eygalières, the new
St Tropez, welcome the celebrities of all sorts. Molleges nestles
in greenery - there are some lovely old stone houses, a " lavoir " ( wash
house) which has been renovated, and so many lovely plane trees which
offer shade in the Summer.
