       COMPUTERS

Computing  goes along well with Radio, but it is also a world on itself.
In my " SHACK " ( radio room, I call it my Bunker), the equipement comprises :
- a PC  PENTIUM II ;  3D video card : ATI XPERT@work, 24X CDRom ,  17 inch  IIYAMA Monitor  with Windows 95  and all the multimedia options.
-Scanner : A4 AGFA Snap Scan
- Printer : HP Deskjet 820 Cxi
-Modem : Novafax 28800

On her desk, Vivien has also a COMPAQ Pentium, with all the multimedia facilities.

RADIO APPLICATIONS  : linked to the different transmitters/receivers, the PC allows  :
-  the display and treatment of weather satellite pictures such as the orbital  NOAA  and METEOR types,  as well as the geostationary METEOSATs.
-  Packet Radio ( transmission / reception of data by packets)
-  RTTY ( transmission / reception  of Radio-Téletype signals )
- Decoding MORSE and other coded transmissions
- Transmission / réception of FAX and  SSTV ( Slow Scan TV )  signals
- Logging  of the radio activities ( contacted stations, QSL cards  etc )

PURE COMPUTING ACTIVITIES  :  Word  processing and  Desktop Publishing  ( The Gazette and other publications) help Vivien a lot for her job.

We have been connected to the INTERNET for a long time ( as usual, we were among the first people to be connected !), and that takes a lot of time ( ... not to mention the phone bill !); We use  all sorts of Atlasses, Dictionnaries and Encyclopedias ; it's a Multimedia world...
I tend to spend more time now, on my computer, than on the radio.
How can people get bored in life ? !!
